I think my “theme” last week was perspective.
In MOPS our speaker talked about having perspective while parenting and remembering to see the bigger picture of life around. You know, things like a spill isn’t the end of the world and someday they will learn to talk and put on their own clothes. Something that’s a good reminder once and a while.
My next reminder came oddly enough from a clip on youtube from Conan O’Brien. Here’s the link if you want to watch it.
This comedian was talking about how great the world is today with all our technology and advances. With all this “amazing” stuff we still get impatient, grouchy and mad. We can’t wait 20 minutes to board a plane (that lets us FLY). We can’t wait one second for cell phones to talk to satellites in space. We’re all a bunch of whining babies (well I’m not, just everyone else!). 🙂
Yesterday I was trying to return my movies to the Red Box in front of McDonald’s and there was a man picking out a movie. I sat in my car as I watched him try to pick one out, check out and pay. While he was checking out I started to get upset that he was entering his email address because he was so slow! I immediately thought about the clip I just watched and laughed. That made me relax and know it’s not the end of the world if I can’t return my $1 DVD (rented from a kiosk even) the second I showed up.
It’s all about perspective, I guess.
So in the words of the comedian, ” everything’s amazing and nobody’s happy!”
